Worshiping Together
I think something special happens when the people of God from various walks of life, a wide span of ages, and different denominations come together in a time of ecumenical worship. I believe it pleases God to see His children getting along so well and doing things together.
It is quite rational and even theological to admit that “we need each other” as fellow Christians. The challenge for compassionate ministry is too great and the task of serving the community in the name of Christ is too large to try and go it alone. By God’s design, we simply must willingly embrace our brothers and sisters in Christ and work together in unity.
Though we have a slightly different doctrine, history and practice from the Methodists, Presbyterian, and Christian churches in our area, we still adhere to the idea that we are all part of a larger, more complete “church” established by Christ Himself. In the spirit of Christ’s prayer in John 17 “that they (God’s people) be one” we welcome any opportunity we have to join with our fellow Christians as a part of one faith community.
Well, we have that chance here in Avondale on Sunday, July 6 as we participate in the Annual Patriotic Service at Lake Avondale. The ecumenical community-wide service begins at 10:30 AM at the Lake Gazebo. We’ll enjoy a combined choir composed of members of all participating churches and celebrate our faith and freedom together as part of this great nation.
Plan to wear something cool and comfortable…maybe in red, white, and blue…and consider bringing your lawn chairs, too!
Please note that we will have Sunday school here as always but we will dismiss classes by 10:00 AM to allow you time to get to the lake. We suggest that you generously give your tithes and offerings here be fore you go. No offerings will be received at the service.
Let’s joyfully praise God and pray for our nation and leaders “together” as people of faith this Independence Day weekend. It will be fun and God will be pleased. I’ll see you there!
